I rarely smoked that heavily so I can't tell you what chain smokers feel, but I've been addicted enough to get pangs when I had to spend time in a department store or take a subway.
They aren't horrible because the time is short, but eventually the pressure builds and you want to get out of there. What happens if you can't smoke at work or school is that you get accustomed to not smoking much during the day. Just as you don't need to smoke in the middle of the night, you get used to having the occasional cigarette during a coffee break or lunch. The short answer is yes. I am a smoker. Although I only smoke 1 pack a day, I think it would be hypocritical judge someone who smokes, considering how much people criticize any smoker.

I love to smoke but its destroying my health and i don't even know where to begin. My husband is also a heavy smoker which makes it even harder. With the stress i'm going through right now wondering if i have cancer i'm finding it even harder to lay them down. They are literally killing me.

I knew my wife would never quit if I didn't. So my suggestion to you is to talk to your spouse about quitting and do it together. Quitting is tough but it only last a short while. Take it one minute, one hour, one day, one week etc.

Women in the study who smoked 1 to 4 cigarettes daily were 5 times more likely to develop lung cancer and men were 3 times more likely, compared to nonsmokers. According to a surgeon general's report, exposure to secondhand smoke during pregnancy is a contributing factor to sudden infant death syndrome and low birth weight 5. He claimed the rejuvenation process of our lungs could adequately offset the effects of 3 cigarettes a day; as if there was no real harm to be done by 3 cigarettes a day. Keep in mind, that's an average of 1, per year, or 21, over the course of 20 years. I'm fairly certain that a set of lungs that smoked 21, cigarettes over 20 years would be much worse off than lungs that were never subjected to cigarette smoke and its toxins.
